People who go blind at a certain point in their lives keep in their memories visual memories.
In her Hands Remember project, the Portuguese photographer Inês Marinho tries to capture in images the memories of several people who lost their vision at different stages of her life.
After having long interviews and conversations with several people she contacted through associations of people with visual disabilities, Inês Marinho retrieved the memories of the people who participated in her project by capturing them with her Polaroid camera.
The photographer says that her own vision problem (she had to have surgery to see better because she had myopia and astigmatism) inspired her to immerse herself in the project. From the protagonists of her photographs, the protagonists of the memories, she says she was surprised by the clarity of her memories and the precision with which they described, in some cases, things as concrete as a painting.
Inês Marinho thinks about continue developing new ideas and projects on the visual memory of the people who have lost the vision.
